During your initial consultation, we will explain how the co-mediation process works. We will explain our fee structure and the expected cost of mediation and answer your questions about whether mediation and working with us is the right choice for you.
During your first session, we will meet with you and your spouse together. At that session, you will determine which spouse will initiate the filing of the divorce or legal separation documents. We will discuss creating a structure for parenting time, if children are involved, set ground rules on how to interact with each other to establish a successful mediation, and begin to work on the schedule of assets and debts.
At the next appointment, the divorce or legal separation documents will be filed and the process will continue regarding the implementation of the shared parenting time and responsibilities, division of property, assets and debts and establishing support. Your mediators will guide you in making your decisions and agreements in a fair and equitable way that will benefit you and your family. The number of sessions will be determined by your ability, with the assistance of your mediators, to reach agreement.
Once a final settlement has been agreed upon and signed, it gets filed with the court. All that is left for you to do is wait until the judge has approved your marital settlement agreement and judgment.
